Smart vs Standard tariffs
Not sure if a Smart tariff is right for you? We break down your usage and show how different tariff types compare — so you can make an informed decision.
Choosing the right plan can make a noticeable difference over a year — especially as prices and offers change regularly.

Some things to consider
- Recent Price Increases. All the plans listed on this site are using the recently announced price rises.
- Suppliers. We show you plans available from many suppliers in Ireland, some of which we can also sign you up for.
- MCC Codes. The MCC code, which you can find on your bill, tells you the configuration of your meter. MCC01 = 24hr, MCC02 = Day/Night, MCC12 = Smart Day/Night/Peak, MCC16 = Smart 24hr.
- Smart Meters. Once you change your meter from "Standard Mode" (MCC01 or MCC02) to Smart Mode (MCC12 or MCC16), you can never go back to Standard Mode. This is a rule from ESB Networks, not the suppliers.
- No Gas (yet). As gas is a much simpler plan to compare we do not (yet) show the comparison. Gas only has one rate and one type of meter (for billpay), just see who has the cheapest kWh rate.
- Direct Debit. All the suppliers require Direct Debit to get their best discounts, if you sign up through us, you will be asked for your IBAN.
- Date of Birth. You must be 18 to enter into a contract in Ireland. For that reason, if you sign up we ask for a date of birth, the supplier will also use it to confirm your identity should you need to call them.
- Electricity Supply. All residential electricity in Ireland is supplied by ESB Networks. When you change supplier, you are really only changing which company bills you, there is no actual change to the electricity delivery to your home.

- Future Costs The plan costs shown may not reflect future costs, these will be dependent on the actual future usage of your electricity.
- Tariffs Used The tariffs used are taken from the publicly available tariffs of each supplier, there may be other tariffs or suppliers available that are not listed.
